Happy New Year! Hope 2012 is kind to you & yours, bringing with it good health & much happiness.
Towards the end of last year I had quite a few hiccups with computer, so didn’t achieve all that I hoped too unfortunately. The search is on now for a new computer.
With Christmas & the holiday festivities over, one of the first tasks I have planned is to begin sorting all the digital photos I have — at the moment they’re just in folders & in no particular order! I’ve got a few projects at the “almost ready to share stage” so with a bit of luck I’ll be posting those very soon. I’m participating in an ATC swap over on the Black Cat USA forum, so that should be lots of fun. Have been working on family tree & I’ve also started P365 again at Little Bits Only — hoping to get a good pass rate this year, so far the report card is looking less than impressive; with a fail in 2009, pass in 2010 & fail again in 2011 . . .

Over on the US BC forum the challenge for October has been to create a range of cards, using our die cutters, an assortment of supplies & various techniques.

With 20 challenges to choose from, probably the hardest decision to make was where to begin. In the end I started with the first challenge, a pop up card incorporating print and cut, both of which I’ve never done before. I incorporated some graphics from a Secret Santa (Kathleen Britain) exchange back in 2005. They were perfect for this project. Once I’d calibrated the cougar, the print and cut process went like a dream. The actual assembly took a bit longer, but overall I was happy with my first attempt.

card front

Spray an empty, clean baby formula tin with a coat of primer, let dry then apply enamel top coat.
2-3 light sprays for best results — don’t be like me & <del>skip </del> forget the primer because you will end up having to apply half a dozen coats!
Leave to cure for a couple of days then cut wording to suit from vinyl. I used some matt scraps but you could use chalkboard or contact paper.
If desired cut a circle of vinyl to fit the lid & finish off by adding your furbaby’s name to it with a chalkboard paint pen.

Items such as cables, battery chargers and the like do go missing! I know, I have a friend who used to spend hours frantically searching for the charger for his camera! I came up with this simple solution for him — a box, rubber bands or twist ties and labels. Recently I decided it was time I followed my own advice, so I found a box to suit and armed with the labeller began organising my stuff. Within minutes the job was done, easy peasy!

Supplies:-
• clean jars, e.g. 235gm Kraft easy cheese
• Mod Podge gloss lustre
• red & blue food colouring
• wire rack
• baking tray covered with alfoil
• old paintbrush or paint stirrer
• bowl to mix in
• wire & wire cutters
• round nosed pliers
• washed sand
• LED tealight candles

pour some Mod Podge into a bowl (I didn’t bother because I was down to the last bit of MP)

add a few drops of red food colouring & enough of the blue to make a gorgeous cranberry colour

stir until thoroughly mixed

pour some into jar & swirl around to coat sides

turn upside down & drain back into mixture, before placing on wire rack

repeat for however many jars you’re planning to do

leave to dry (I left mine for a couple of days — got sidetracked!)

cut a length of wire to make handle & using the round nose pliers, curl each end as in step 3

fold the handle wire in half

take another length of wire & wrap around neck of jar, sliding the handle on as in step 4

twist wire together to secure & snip off ends with wire cutters as shown in step 6

repeat for each jar
